Birdhouses were the first handcrafted items that Gene made here in Vermont. He began by making decorative birdhouses and rustic, wooden birdhouses from salvaged barn board. He has great fun shopping around and finding different and unusual items to use for perches. Gene has crafted many different primitive birdhouses, some with metal roofs, and even some with porches.
After completing the birdhouse, Gene will often add one of his “touches,” which could be a butterfly, mini-birdhouse, or a ladybug. Sometimes he will have me paint or stencil on one of the birdhouses, to give it a decorative, unique look.
More recently, Gene began crafting his birdhouses with faces. These range from leprechauns to little old ladies. In this group are his two best sellers – the bear and the moose, which he decided to build because he has seen both creatures from his own windows at home. These are definitely Vermont critters!Click on the thumbnails to view larger images.
